In the age of globalisation, e-commerce and free trade hype, old and unfancied border trade is still alive and remains a driving force for export-led economies.
In Southeast Asia, thailand is a proof of success. Last year two-way trade at the borders with Bema,cambodia,Laos and Malaysia, as well as that with southern China jumped 18 percent from 2001 to 209 billion baht,with the 42 billion surplus in favour of thai exporters. More than half of the recorde value was commercial activities between Thailand and the southern neighbour of Malaysia.
